Top 10 Media Wall Design Ideas We Installed This Year

Looking back through this year's completed projects, a few clear design trends stand out, alongside some client requests that pushed us to try something a little different. Here are ten of our favourite media wall designs installed across Manchester media walls projects and the North West this year. 1. Vertical oak slats with an inset fire

Still our most requested design overall. Evenly spaced oak battens run floor to ceiling either side of a central inset electric fire and recessed TV, with a felt backing that adds a subtle acoustic benefit as well as a visual one. 2. Dark walnut slats for a moodier living room

A darker take on the slatted look, using stained or natural walnut rather than oak. This works particularly well in rooms with plenty of natural light, where a lighter oak finish can sometimes feel less dramatic than clients expect.

3. Marble-effect panels with floating shelving

Large-format porcelain panels in a marble-effect finish, paired with two floating oak shelves either side of the TV. A favourite in larger, more formal reception rooms in Bramhall and Worsley this year, part of our wider Stockport coverage.

4. Painted MDF in a bold colour

Not every media wall needs to be neutral. We have fitted several this year in deep forest green and dark charcoal painted finishes, which suit period terraces particularly well when paired with brass or matt black hardware.

5. Mixed acoustic wall: slats and fabric

A genuinely popular combination this year, oak slats on one section of the wall and a fabric-wrapped acoustic panel on another, giving both a textural contrast and a stronger acoustic benefit than either material alone. See our bespoke acoustic media walls page for how we spec these.

6. Full-height wall with hidden storage

For a family in Bramhall, we built a floor-to-ceiling media wall with two full-height cupboards either side of the fire, hiding a games console collection and a decade of DVDs behind flush, handle-free doors.

7. Slim profile wall for a lower ceiling

In a Victorian terrace with a lower-than-average ceiling, we designed a shorter media wall that stopped well short of the ceiling, with a slim cornice detail, keeping the room feeling open rather than boxed in.

8. LED cove lighting behind a floating fire surround

A wall-mounted fire with a floating timber surround, backlit with a warm LED cove, giving the fire a gentle halo effect against the wall in the evening. 9. Commercial slatted reception wall

Our largest non-residential project this year, a branded slatted wood reception wall for a Manchester office, with a backlit logo cut into the panel spacing and a discreet screen for visitor information. This falls under our commercial and slatted wood walls service.

10. Compact apartment media wall

Proof that media walls are not just for large family homes: a neat, freestanding media wall for a one-bedroom apartment near Salford Quays, using a slim inset fire and a single floating shelf to make the most of a smaller living space.

A common thread

Across all ten of these projects, the details that made the biggest difference were rarely the headline material choice. Even spacing on slatted panels, correctly concealed cabling, and well-planned lighting are what separate a genuinely premium finish from a good-looking photo that does not hold up once you are living with it day to day.
